Where to turn in the face of uncertainty

It is no news that the world is currently facing one of its most difficult times. In these moments of great uncertainty and change, fear, anxiety, and grief are normal and instinctive reactions we endure as humans. Allowing these energies to override us, however, is the most counterproductive reaction we can allow.

Although the current situation is certainly challenging, it is also abundant in opportunities for us to flourish as both individuals, and as a society. If we use this moment as a chance to come together as one, and hold each other up in times of need, our recovery will be incredibly healing to both ourselves and the planet. All we have to do is pause, breathe, and choose how to react in whatever situation we find ourselves.

With many of us in lockdowns, isolations, and social distancing, we realize we have a lot more time on our hands to be with, well, ourselves. This is a beautiful opportunity! All of these moments we can now spend with loved ones if we are lucky, can also be a chance to come back to ourselves. While dedicating this newfound time to meditate, learn skills, look after ourselves and allow our creativity to flow through art and journaling, we may discover how much we can learn by just tapping into our internal wisdom. We find the time to cultivate practices - one of the most powerful of which is simply holding gratitude. When the rug is pulled from under our feet it is so easy to latch onto everything that we have lost or that we are missing. Why not flip the coin and instead notice everything we do have? Shelter, a good book, your dog - whatever you may be grateful to have in your life.

Gratitude is the one thing that can smash anxiety out of the park, which is important in a time like this.

Another powerful practice is to simply surrender to that which is, has been, and may be. Whatever happens to us and the rest of the world is out of our control, no matter how hard we might try to grasp and direct things we must remember that ultimately all control is a mere illusion.

Simply allow the flow of life to carry you - it’s all part of the dance.

Allow every experience no matter how you perceive it, simply explore and see what can be learned from each moment.

I firmly believe nature is our greatest healer. Especially in times of uncertainty some simple sunshine, fresh air, and our bare feet on grass can be very nourishing and grounding. Everything in the universe vibrates at its own frequency, constantly in motion, and the optimal frequency of the human brain for relaxation and creativity is 7.83 hertz. This is also the frequency of our Mama Earth, although the concrete walls and devices we surround ourselves with can disrupt our natural frequencies. By immersing ourselves in nature we allow our body to 're-tune' to our optimum vibration, stimulating life and healing.

Another quality in nature is that she remains constant whilst always in flux.

When our lives are in turmoil, we can turn to nature and observe her coming and going just as she always has. The sun still kisses the trees in the same way, birds still sing each morning and the moon still rolls through its cycle. It's comforting to observe these patterns and find familiarity in these beautiful phenomena.

As the sun sinks on another day, the most important thing we can all remember is that the underlying foundation of all things - that which everything emanates from and leads back to, is love.

Love is all we have that can override fear.

This is our moment to live in love, to let it be all we come back to again and again no matter how much our situation might challenge us. Whatever arises can always be conquered by simply noticing and sharing love. For ourselves, each and every being. May we all be happy, at peace and liberated from our suffering and the cause of it.

Just like everything, this has arisen and so too will cease. That is the beauty of the impermanent nature of existence.

What is going on right now is the perfect chance for us to take a step back to introspection, to patiently untangle and explore our being, uncovering our own peace and tranquillity amongst the sea of turmoil. It can be so tempting to cling to media and other external sources to try and find the answers that already lie within us; we simply need to pause and reflect within.
